Kimberly's Bio...

From the time
I was a little girl, I’ve always believed
that I was born a century or so too late.
That I would have been right at home wearing
a hoop skirt and sipping mint juleps on the
front porch of some palatial Southern
mansion, or racing through the fog-shrouded
streets of London in an elegant carriage on
my way to some secretive moonlit rendezvous.
Of course, there are those pessimists who
like to point out that after about a week or
two without modern conveniences, I’d be
ready to come home in a hurry, but what do
they know, anyway? |
I was born the oldest of
three children in small-town Indiana, where I still live
with my beloved Yorkshire terrier, Skittle. I have
always shared a very close and loving relationship with
my family, and I adore my niece and three nephews. In my
opinion, the best thing about being a doting aunt is
being able to spoil them all I want, then send them home
to their parents. Ahhh. The best of both worlds.
Shy and quiet, I developed my love of reading at the age
of two, when my parents tell me they discovered I could
recite The Night Before Christmas while pretending to
read the book and turning the pages in all the
appropriate places. My love of writing followed soon
after, when my mother gifted me with a Trixie Belden
book for my seventh birthday. The adventures of the girl
detective fascinated me, and after that I was rarely
seen without my nose buried in the pages of a novel.
Pretty soon, I was starting to make up my own stories
and write them down to be shared with my friends.

It wasn’t
until junior high, however, that my love of
romance novels came about. After sneaking
Kathleen E. Woodiwiss’s A Rose in Winter out
of my mother’s nightstand drawer and
devouring it in practically one sitting, I
was a convert for life! All of my writing
started taking on a definite romantic slant.
Hmmm. That girl detective in my latest story
sure could use a boyfriend…
After that, I read every romance I could get
my hands on, and though I enjoyed all kinds,
my favorites were the lush, sprawling
historicals, especially the ones with just a
touch of mystery, suspense, or adventure. I
loved getting lost in another time and
place, and I made up my mind that someday I
was going to write novels just like that. I
was going to be a historical romance author. |

Fast forward several
years, and I am proud to say that my dream has become a
reality. Not only did I sell my first book to Avon in
December of 2003, but I went on to win the Romance
Writers of America's Golden Heart Award for that same
book in 2004. Even now, quite a few books and years
later, it is sometimes hard to believe that I am
actually a published author. It hasn't always been an
easy road, but the journey has been well worth it, and I
am thrilled to finally be able to share the characters
in my head with readers like you. (And to finally tell
that tenth grade English teacher who was always taking
my books away from me that I was truly only doing
research for my future profession!) And though I have
yet to live in that Southern mansion or visit the foggy
streets of London, I have faith. After all, all of my
other dreams are coming true, so there is always hope.
